Victoria United FC midfielder Manjie Palia Mba has become the first player in the club’s history to wear the captain armband in a CAF Champions League match.

On Sunday 18 August, 2024, in a historic moment for Victoria United FC, Mba assumed the captaincy in their CAF Champions League preliminary first leg tie against visiting FC Samartez 1996.

” I am very happy to captain the team and continue making history at the club of my life. We are very excited,’ he said.

Mba claims that even before wearing the captain’s armband, he always felt like a crucial and respected player within the team.

” Even if u didn’t wear the armband, I have always felt like a very important player on the team,

While Mba did not downplay the privilege of being entrusted with the captain’s armband, he added that it also puts a lot of pressure on him and increases great deal of responsibility.

” It’s a very important challenge, with a lot of responsibility. You even put the pressure on yourself,’ he professed.

Mba produced solid exhibitions across all competitions for Opopo last term.
