President Nkwain Valentine is optimistic Victoria United will progress to the next round of the CAF Champions League.

The Limbe based giants are set to face FC Samartez in the return fixture in Accra on Sunday, August 25.

The Ghanaian Premier League champions defeated Opopo on their adopted ground, the Japoma Stadium in Douala, on Sunday, to go into the second leg with a one-goal advantage.

A 48th minute header by striker Emmanuel Mamah from a well-treaded corner kick turned out to be the winning goal for the visitors in the first leg preliminary round of 2024/2025 CAF Champions League.

Opopo had chances to get back into the game, but they were wasteful in the final third.

President Nkwain told the press after the match that his team will approach the return fixture with strength of character and mental toughness.

We will go back to the drawing board to prepare very well for the return leg and we are positive going forward.

The game did not go the way we planned it. We need to do prepare well for the battle ahead,” responded Nkwain when asked about his expectation traveling to Accra.

The charismatic President believes Opopo can turn the game around in the second leg. The winner will pick the ticket to the second preliminary round.
